1. Information We Collect

When you use The Movie Game, we collect the following information:

• Display name — the name you choose during onboarding, visible to other players in your games.
• Phone number — used for account verification via SMS one-time passcode (Clerk authentication).
• Device guest token — a locally generated identifier used for development/testing authentication.
• Avatar image — an optional profile photo you upload, stored on our servers.
• Gameplay data — movie nominations, elimination turns, votes, and game participation history.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Create and maintain your account.
• Enable you to create, join, and participate in games with other players.
• Display your identity (name and avatar) to other players in shared games.
• Provide and improve the service.

3. Data Sharing

We share your data only with the service providers necessary to operate The Movie Game:

• Clerk — processes phone number verification and authentication. Clerk Privacy Policy
• Convex — hosts our backend database and file storage. Convex Privacy Policy
• TMDB (The Movie Database) — provides movie information. We send only search queries to TMDB; no personal data is shared. TMDB Privacy Policy

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

4. Data Storage

Your account data, gameplay history, and uploaded avatars are stored in Convex's serverless database and file storage infrastructure. Locally on your device, we store only a guest session token and display name in UserDefaults for session persistence.

5. Children's Privacy

The Movie Game is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

6. Your Rights & Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time from the Settings screen in the app. When you delete your account:

• Your player record and avatar image are permanently removed.
• Any active games you are hosting will be cancelled.
• Your game memberships are removed.
• Historical gameplay data (movie picks, votes, turns) is retained in anonymized form as part of completed game records.

If you are located in the EU, California, or another jurisdiction with applicable data protection laws, you may have additional rights including access, correction, and portability. Contact us to exercise these rights.

7. Third-Party Services

The Movie Game integrates with TMDB, Clerk, and Convex as described above. Each service has its own privacy policy governing how it handles data. We encourage you to review their policies.

8. Analytics & Tracking

We do not use analytics SDKs, advertising identifiers, or cross-app tracking. We do not participate in ad networks. The app does not request App Tracking Transparency permission because no tracking occurs.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
